Develop Projects

Even if you are not part of an existing local environmental group, you may wish to try and develop a local project, or perhaps start up a new group. You may also be part of a different sort of community group which is interested in developing an environmental project. The following organisations may be able to offer funding and advice:

Mendip Environment offers support for Mendip's environmental groups.

Mendip Community Support: assists voluntary organisations and groups within the district, provides information on possible funding sources and gives advice on putting together a successful funding bid. Mendip District Council (MDC) has web based data base of grant giving organisations and the types of project they might support, so call customer services on 01749 648999 and ask about GRANTNET.

The British Trust for Conservation Volunteers (BTCV) gives practical advice on conservation techniques, insurance and other services for community groups. Awards for All: This is a lottery grant scheme for local communities that now awards grants up to £10000. Have a look at the website and see if your groups idea would qualify, www.awardsforall.org.uk, or call them and request the information 0845 6002040.
