From May 2008, Mendip Environment offered a free energy audit and 22 trained volunteers were available to visit homes in the district, providing information on insulation grants, alternative fuel suppliers, central heating systems and solar heating. They were alaos able to arrange installation of cavity wall and loft insulation if needed (households on low incomes, or with someone over 70, could often have the insulation installed for free). In addition, the volunteers could help with getting a lower energy tariff for those in fuel poverty (where householders are spending more than 10% of their income on heating).

Anyone living in the Mendip District Council area that wished to have a free energy audit carried out on their home was able to request one. Training was also availabel for anyone interested in becoming an energy advisor.

Ther scheme ran for five years but was then sadly ended due to lack of funding.
